When Vows are Renewed after 25 Years

Another year, another wedding or two.

What better way to start off the month of LOVE, than with a wedding post to really feel the love.

Last weekend, I attended my first Christian wedding. It was definitely something different compared to Arab weddings. It's much more romantic since the bride and groom are together for the entire night. Both smiling and glowing with happiness.

This lovely couple is the parents of one of my best gals. They've been married for 25 years and decided to celebrate the quarter of a century together, and I'm guessing a few more years more adding up the years since they met, by renewing their vows. It was the sweetest thing ever.

The bride's dress was boutique bought, and the vail was tailored on. The mermaid shaped dress with sparkling rhinestones that trailed its way down to the chiffon of the dress fitted perfectly with her awesome bod, and made her look 20 years younger.

The sidenotes about weddings is that there is always that one or two aunts and/or uncles who would ask you "When are you going to get married?" and you will either smile and laugh in acknowledgment or have no choice but to sarcastically reply "Oh, you didn't hear? My wedding is on this day next week".

Faith. Faith that one day I'll find the love my sister and her very recent husband have for one another. A love that is pure and honest.

Last night was the marriage celebration/wedding/party. I honestly have no idea how they officially call these events in muslim traditions. But Is a wedding still a wedding without the priest and an alter? Is a marriage celebration another form of weddings? These arab/muslim customs are just so confusing. Nothing seems straight to the point or have a certain order/agenda. Nonetheless, let's call this night, a night to celebrate a newly found couple who have now become one, and all that jazz.

From morning up until this early Wednesday morning, have been one hell of a busy day. From decorating the parties venue, to buying flowers, picking up the cake, doing make up, and driving 40 minutes away from home to celebrate the loving couples marital status. It was fun. It's always fun to be busy, especially when one is busy helping others in need of help and organization in planning an event such as this.

I initially bought two dresses for the celebration since I couldn't decide which one to wear. Eventually I did, and fortunately for my eldest sister, she had a brand new dress to borrow.

Thinking I would run out of energy during the night, I decided to go in my flats than my ankle strap heels. Despite how gorgeous they looked both on and off me, I had brought the pumps in a little baggie just in case I decide to change out of my flats. It fortunately didn't happen, and my feet are definitely happy with not being squeezed and tortured all night.

The night was filled with with nada más que amor. :)

DIY: Lantern Jars

Today, I bring you with my first DIY blog post!

My sister is having a bridal shower and I'm helping her out with the giveaways, decorations, and basically everything related to crafting. Trying to grasp the idea of what she'd plan to giveaway, since she didn't give me any specifics except for a shopping list. In the end I finally understood what my sister was getting at with her idea for her party favors. Lantern jars. It was super fun to make, and they look really cute.

Here's what you'll need:

Pliers, wires, a jar, and a candle.

*Please take care when handling the wire and pliers, we don't want to poke anyones eye out*

PROCEDURE

1. Firstly, you'll want to measure how much wire you'll be using by wrapping the wire around the top of the jar once. Make a mark on the wire that is directly parallel to the first end of the wire by bending it a little. (The wire I used is quite soft so it was easier for me to bend)

2. Next, you'll want to make a twist on the first end of the wire. You can use a pencil to help you make a circle and begin twisting.

3. Do the same with the side of the wire you marked, but make sure your twists are directly parallel to each other.

4. Now start wrapping the wire around the jar, and twisting once over the circular twist you made on each side of the jar to secure the wire. Tightly wrap the wire around the jar twice to fully secure it.

It should look like this

Now it's time to do the handle of the lantern.

5. Begin by looping the end of the wire into the circular twist that you made, and start to twist and twist again.

6. Measure and estimate how long you want your handle to be. Leave some excess wire because you'll be looping and twisting over here too. Then cut, loop the end of the wire into the circular twist again and again begin to twist and secure. And you're done!

You can customize your lantern in anyway you like. We stuck with the purple theme and bought a lavender scented candle to match.

Again, take care when doing this project, and keep a first aid kit near by just encase.

Missing Unicorn

So a whole lot has happened this past week. My sister is getting married and all the planning is stressing out both her and her groom-to-be. Being an Arab/Muslim wedding, the traditions are a whole lot more confusing comparing to simple non-Arab weddings. I honestly still don't really understand it.

Seeing all the marriage how procedures and planning are being done, I realize now that I want to marry in Vegas. Away from awkward family conversations, wedding complications, and everyone's complaints. Just get married in Vegas. Simple as that. (I'm joking, of course. My parents would disown me if I did)

I've been itching to pull out my new slit maxi skirt ever since it arrived in the mail. At first I wanted to pair it with a crop top, but then I thought of going for something loose and comfortable, so I went for my pretty old Missing Unicorn tee. It's quite hot over on my side of the world, I wanted to take quickly take the photos and get out of the sun before my camera overheats, so please excuse my crunched up expression in these photos.
