3 Types of People on Valentines Day

February 14, 2015

Happy Valentines Day y'all!

I feel like communities separate into three types of people on Valentines Day. The first are the people who care so deeply for Valentines, they would spend their week anticipating what their significant other has planned for the night – these are the kind of folks who could go a little mental if they don't get what they were hoping for and they kind of scare me.

The second are the people who couldn't care less about this not-holiday-holiday. They treat this day like any other day. Valentines has no meaning for them. *high five*

And the third are people who just acknowledge this day by buying themselves a nice bag of the most expensive chocolate, fresh flowers, and sit home to watch a good movie. Or they would buy some chocolates and flowers to randomly give out to their friends and family.  *high tens*

So half the world cares so much about Valentines, while the other half couldn't care less, but there is that one in the middle who just gives everyone random hugs, chocolates, flowers, and little sweet notes to their friends and family to acknowledge that this is the day of LOVE, so they spread it like wildfire.

Today isn't only about lovely dovey couples on dates, this day could be about sharing and spreading the love with every person you meet. So go on and give someone a nice long hug, because hugs are good for everyone.

With Valentines as inspiration for this outfit. I went with my one and only midi skirt that I love to death, and a black blouse to give the look the feel that I'm into Valentines but not really. So that means I pretty much fall in the third category of people who just acknowledge this day by giving everyone random hugs and pieces of chocolate to everyone. Perhaps I'll leave some for myself before I give it all out. haha. Which of one of the three are you?

Whatever type you are, just take a moment to spread some love to the people around you. Everyone needs to get a little sprinkle of love in their days every now and then.

Spread that love y'all! Spread. that. love!

Infinity Scarves & Three Ways to Style Them

January 12, 2015

The thing about infinity scarves is that they are limitless, endless, and that's just me stating the obvious. Infinity scarves are like crop-tops with no sleeves that only reach above our boobs, or if we have tiny boobs, we'll be lucky enough to pull it down a little bit more, to get it below the mountains.

Infinity scarves have been around since 2013? 2012? And they can be worn multiple ways with multiple outfits. They're warm and convenient for throwing over a plain looking outfit. So let me tell you straight up, it's an investment getting an infinity scarf. If you don't have one, get one. If you already have one, good for you. *claps and gives candy*

Since it's cold over here and in most places of the world, and it's now appropriate to bring out those knitted scarves and style them accordingly. Here are three ways to style them:

The Normal Way

When you don't have time to wrap a scarf around your neck, just throw the infinity scarf over your head and boom! you're ready!

The Hooded Way

Take scarf from the back and hood it over your head like nomad caught in a sandstorm. Arrange that bulk of hair that would probably be sticking out on top, and you're done and ready to head out!

The Fancy Way

Ahh...the fancy way. This idea came from one of my good friends, Sasha. We went to a wedding and she paired the dress she was wearing with the infinity scarf styled this way. Just pull the scarf over your shoulders, keeping bits of the scarf to cover your neck, and you're done! I think it looks quite vintage and type of scarf you would wear to a gala. It's very fancy don't you say?

What are your ways of styling infinity scarves or a regular scarf? Send me a link and let me know in the comments. I'm always looking for new ways to wear them.

And how are you all enjoying the weather?
I'm loving it!

Just You: Najla Qamber

November 17, 2014
Just You, is a little project where a bunch of my favorite people with awesome styles get featured on this platform of mine. This is a week long project that will go on until Friday, 21st November.
The awesome people being featured were asked to style an outfit that makes them feel good and confident about being themselves, and in their own skin. They are to style an outfit that screams out THEM!

You all may have noticed the name "Najla Qamber" flying around my blog. Yeap, she's my sister. Yeap the married one.

Her style is a little more conservative than mine. Since she has always been the skinniest in the family – which of course I envied – she always had the ability to wear whatever she liked and not care about that bulging belly and oversized thighs, but she didn't. Naj always finds a way to make something revealing into something modest. It's her sense of style that make me second guess when I go out in a short skirt or a deep v-neck.

Everyone please give it up for Najla Qamber!

Hi Nada Más Que Amor followers! My name is Najla ‘Naj’ Qamber and I’m Nada’s older sister (the one that shared a room with her all her life). Just a short brief about me, I was formerly a book blogger, I love everything about books and graphics design. So, one day I combined the two and founded Najla Qamber Designs. Now, I design book covers for a living and Nada does my accounts. :)

Now, onto the outfit! Long ago (2008 maybe?), my ‘comfy’ styled everyday outfit was a tight striped top (mostly dark colors) with bell bottom tight pants, a random black vest, with an addition of rocker-ish accessories. I was lame and honestly, that was never me.

It took me many years, but I found ‘the’ outfit that just said ‘Naj’. A pastel colored oversized sweater with jeans that color block the entire outfit. This is usually what I wear anytime of the year, cold or shine (It doesn’t rain in Bahrain much - lol). This may sound super weird, but I see long sleeved sweaters as a safety net from any type of weather or air conditioning. I also love looking petite. ;)

During serious times, I bring out my CEO/Toastmaster in me and go for a dressy-blazer type of thing. I realized that red compliments my skin tone a lot (correct me if I’m wrong Nada), and it somehow just works well whenever I wear anything in that color.

Here I’m wearing a high low chiffon red dress that gives out that casual and yet formal vibe when topped with a blazer. Plus, feeling something flowy behind me always makes me feel confident and even more so when I wear my kitten heels. I always go for these outfits when I’m at a business or Toastmaster meeting. It brings out my business oriented side: Elegant, independent, serious, business-type of woman.

Those are the two outfits that are ‘me’.

So, followers of the great and beautiful Nada, what outfit screams you?

Oversized and Plaid

September 24, 2014

My so called life, is an old 1990's tv show about an awkward teenage girl and her friends, and how they go through high school dealing with their teenage problems such as boys, hatred for school, zits, and the usual drama between friends. It's a pretty good show, with a lot of inner dialogue and awkward conversations between crushes. (oh the word "crush" just takes me back to high school...i don't miss it at all)

Unsure where exactly I heard about this show, I know it's not what I watched as kid, but I do recall seeing it floating around the internet somewhere, and noticed that it had young Claire Danes and young Jared Leto in it. Who doesn't want to see that? It's always fun to see celebrities and how they looked like before they got big. I mean, let's take a moment to just acknowledge Jared and Shannon Leto's hair.

And moment over...

This outfit was slightly inspired by My So Called Life. Throughout the season; before it got cancelled, all I saw was plaid, plaid, oversized shirts, plaid, layers, and more plaid.

I found a way to wear this awesome yet oversized shirt out, since I wanted to show it off for a bit before I degrade it into the pajama-family. Tucking the shirt into my jeans, adding my oversized plaid button up over it and throwing on my converse, my casual weird yet comfortable 90's look was complete. It's a look that anyone can pull off.

If you worry about looking like that person stuck in the 90's, or that person dressed a little too weird or like they didn't try at all to look presentable...

"Care not about what others think because it's what you think that matters most to yourself"

It's a quote I started to live by so I can wear whatever makes me feel comfortable in my own skin. So wear what makes you feel beautiful for the day, be it a pair of sweats or a summer dress in the middle of winter. As long as you got a smile on your face, your clothes will just add a few plus points to your inner beauty.

YAT Meeting - International Earth Day

March 31, 2014
I know it's a little early for Earth Day, but for some reason, our toastmasters club; Young Adult Toastmasters (YAT), decided to celebrate it early this year.

Yes, the meeting was themed International Earth Day, and everyone was invited to dress in earth-tones, and solid earth-tones only, no prints. And when a beautiful floral button up just came in the mail from eBay, I wasn't really allowed to wear it. :(

Anyways, I made due an orange tank top, my fabulous turquoise blazer, and some black slacks and boots. There! That's as earthy as I can get without using any floral.

The meeting all in all went very well. After delivering my first evaluation in a very long time, I thought I did a good job, despite being slightly unorganized and all over the place. Having finished the first two toastmaster manuals I was given, I thought I'd be a good public speaker by now, but it seems like I still have quite a lot to practice on.

Public speaking takes practice, confidence and quick thinking, that's what I've learned in my two years in toastmasters.
