Pecha Kucha, Florals, and I

June 16, 2014

A few days back, I went to a speaking event called Pecha Kucha Bahrain Vol. 7. Now for those who are unfamiliar with Pecha Kucha; like I was, it is an international event that occurs a few times a year. It was first started in Japan for those who want to showcase their products, services, and/or stories to the public in the quickest way possible. At least, that's how I see and understand it all. Or as their website puts it:
PechaKucha Night, now in over 700 cities, was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. - Website
Pecha Kucha has a 20x20 rule or format, 20 slides per 20 seconds, so basically a speaker will be speaking for 4 minutes straight.

It was weird watching other people speak in public outside of toastmasters, and watching them not follow the toastmasters protocol and speaking rules got me itching. I've become so accustomed to everyone greeting "good morning/afternoon/evening" before they speak, and having a proper beginning, body and conclusion. And don't get me started on the pause fillers, I was so very tempted to count every single "ah" "uhm" and "ya3ni" of every speaker that spoke.

By the end of the night, I was honestly impressed and surprised by some of the speakers and what they had to say. All of them went up there and spoke with great confidence. They spoke about what they love, how they found themselves, what inspired them, and what they built in terms of business and entrepreneurship.

It is these kind of events that everyone should go to at least once and listen to the stories the speakers have to tell, because it can be inspiring, eye opening and surprising at times.

On to something fashion related, this floral top, among other things, was what came out of me binge shopping. I wore this outfit during the toastmasters training I went to while writing my Fun in Basics post.

Now this photo above is something I'm not going to lie about. I'm not going to lie about my body, so I didn't photoshop out those marks on my arm or that sunburn on my back. This blog is about me being me. Yes, I do have stretch marks and I'm not afraid to show them. I used to be over weight and with the constant weight gain and weight loss throughout my teenage years left a little or let's say a lot of scars in a few places.
So I am not as flawless as those other bloggers I wished I looked like. :)

I hope you all are having a wonderful Monday so far!
