Boss, the Independent Woman

January 9, 2015

"BOSS (BO$$), Michelle Obama, purse all heavy gettin' Oprah dollars"

Before you even think of which kind boss I'm referring to, nope, it's not the boss you hate, nor is it your cool boss. I'm talking about being your own boss girl – or guy. Standing up for yourself, getting what you want/need, and not being a full-on push over all the time.

First off, I am addicted to this song by Fifth Harmony. It released sometime last year, but it wasn't until recently when it I heard it once – on the radio I think – and was obsessed.

Though the song may not appeal some of ya'll, but the message and theme of the song speaks clearly. It speaks of the modern independent woman and being as strong and feisty as any man. From the "Working for the money 'cause that's what my mama taught me" to putting it clearly with "I pledge allegiance to the independent girls in here"

We work to live. We work so hard to build a stable life and eventually die feeling accomplished. Does anyone else think that far ahead? Is that one of your main goals? To die feeling accomplished. Apparently it's mine. Dark...

What is it like being a successful independent woman? Is it waking up at a reasonable hour of 6am, dressing up in clothes that make us feel C.O.N.F.I.D.E.N.T, and making our to a building that produces a product or service that adds to the economy in exchange for money? Is it being your own boss, making decisions based on your own interests, and going out there to feel proud with being you?

Tell me, how would you describe an independent woman?
